Ways to Pick the Perfect Wedding Music

Picking just the right music for your wedding day can seem like a daunting task, and quite frankly, it can be. What you really need to do to make sure that this part of planning your wedding doesn't get too overwhelming is to break it up into small chunks of manageable music sets.Processional SongsStart with the beginning of your wedding event - your wedding procession song(s). You will need to select two or three songs for this part of the ceremony. Processional songs will be needed for:
Bridal train (i.e. bridesmaids, groomsmen, flower girls, etc.) entering the church
Bride's church entrance
Groom's church entrance (if he opts not to "enter stage left" and wait at the altar, or if he opts to walk his mother down the aisle)
Processional songs are typically more traditional songs or classical music, and of course, most people are familiar with "Here Comes The Bride". That doesn't mean yours has to be a cookie-cutter wedding though. Nowadays, brides and grooms are choosing to more alternative genres of music. Your wedding is a happy and joyous occasion, so if you and your entire wedding party feel like dancing down the aisle rather than having a solemn procession then by all means, go for it!Unity Candle Ceremony SongsIf you will be lighting a unity candle then here is where you'll want to pick a song that has a "unity" theme. Not everyone has a unity candle ceremony and by no means should you have one if you don't wish to, but if you plan to, then figure in a song for this otherwise your guests will be watching you both light the candle in silence. This part of the ceremony would be a good time to have vocally talented family member, friend, or professional singer do a special live song. Pick wisely.Let's move on to the reception next.Wedding Party Entrance SongsIt's more than likely that the people in your wedding party are thrilled that you and your honey are now officially married. They will probably want to dance for joy... so let them! Pick upbeat songs and songs that will get your guests excited and hyped up too.Consider using music that can be danced to very easily, something catchy so that others at the reception can't help but groove with the bridesmaids and groomsmen.First Dance SongsAll your guests will be looking forward to this one because everyone wants to see the new couple dancing their first dance. Here again, you can choose to go the traditional route by picking a waltz. Or you can choose to go with a modern trend and choreograph an entertaining dance number with modern-day music. Some couples choose to prank their guests by starting out with a waltz or something romantic and slow then pretending that there's a SNAFU with the music then all of a sudden "busting a move" to a hip-hop type song.Mother-Son & Father-Daughter Dance SongsHere's where and when you can (and probably will) get just as mushy as you want to. You may bring the whole reception hall to tears if you pick a particularly sentimental song but naturally that isn't your primary goal. Think about your relationship with the parent you will be dancing with. Are there any songs that adequately express that? Or maybe you want to pick a song that reflects this day of transition from one life phase to another. How about picking a song that shows your gratefulness to your parent for all the sacrifices they made for you, their support, their love, etc.
